Webinar: Get to know the budget process
Last updated: 29 July 2025On 11 May 2020, we ran a webinar on the Budget process.
The webinar was presented by the Parliamentary Engagement Team and experts from the Office of the Clerk.
The Budget outlines how much money the government intends to earn over the coming financial year and how it plans to spend it. The government’s proposed spending must first be approved by Parliament, and then is subject to further scrutiny in select committees. Parliament has a crucial role in examining how taxpayer’s money is being spent.
The webinar's presenters included:
-
James Picker (Clerk Assistant): James is an expert in all aspects of the Budget process.
-
Mary Drakeford (Clerk of the Finance and Expenditure Committee): Mary provided valuable insight into the Budget cycle from the perspective of select committees.
-
Carmen Maran is a part of the Parliamentary Engagement Team at NZ Parliament.
